Couples Therapy
In-Person in Ottawa and Online
In-Person in Ottawa and Online
If you choose to attend weekly or biweekly couples therapy sessions, this format works well if:
- you are looking for guidance, rather than seeking a quick fix, to manage your daily challenges as a couple
- you know you could be taking better care of each other from day to day
- you are having financial-related conflicts and want to learn how to work more like a team
- you have been feeling emotionally disconnected, despite your declared love for each other
- you are adjusting to retirement or empty-nesting, and you now have the time to focus on your relationship
- you want to communicate better so that you each feel heard
Continued sessions with an experienced therapist you can trust are helpful for growing as a couple over time. Consider this:
- you want a consistent therapist who can inspire you to grow and expand as individuals and as a couple
- you want to build trust with a therapist who will not be judgmental or take sides
- you want to develop new skills over time that will help you feel safe and secure in each other’s care
- you want to experience feeling heard by your partner, and that requires ongoing learning
- you want to learn practical tools that you can incorporate into your daily lives between sessions
Some practical considerations when choosing weekly or bi-weekly sessions:
- you prefer meeting more regularly so that you have time to practice new skills in between sessions
- you work out of home or can leave your office for a couple of hours to be together for the sessions
- you have a flexible work schedule that allows you to meet on weekdays (our last appointment on weekdays is at 6:30 pm EST), or on Saturday mornings
- you have a young child or children who need short-term care while you are in session, and can easily make arrangements with a relative, caregiver or friend
- you are unable to attend a Couple Intensive with its 5-6 hour/day format because of illness or caregiving duties
We see our online clients using a secure, encrypted video conferencing platform. We are available to meet in person at our Ottawa office on Fridays during the day and on Saturday mornings.
What You Need to Know
Who Typically Attends Our Couples Therapy Sessions?
Many people think of couples therapy as a last resort. Most couples seek help when they are struggling with:
- persistent conflicts and power struggles
- lack of meaningful communication
- distancing and disconnection
- loss of passion and sexual intimacy
- infidelity and issues of trust
- differing parenting styles
- integrating blended families
Whatever brings you to couples therapy, this counselling experience will be insightful, helpful, and hopeful. Our goal as therapists is to bring out the best in both of you so that you can feel safe and secure as both partners and friends.
Location and Session Length
We work with clients remotely using a secure, encrypted videoconferencing platform. Couples therapy sessions are usually one-and-a-half to two hours long. The initial session for new clients is two hours in length.
We schedule a limited number of clients at our Ottawa, Ontario, office at the end of each week. In-person couples therapy sessions are usually one-and-a-half to two hours long.
Couples Therapy Hourly Fees
We each charge an hourly fee of $250. Payment is due at the time of your appointment and is processed automatically by VISA or MasterCard once you enter your credit card information on our secure, encrypted videoconferencing platform. Hourly sessions require 48 hours’ notice of cancellation.
Please Note: We no longer charge GST/HST for our services, as Bill C-59 received Royal Assent from the Government of Canada.
If you do not have private health insurance: Please discuss your personal situation when you call. We offer a sliding scale fee for clients who do not have adequate health coverage.
Insurance Coverage
If your company has an Employee Assistance, or an Extended Healthcare plan, you may be covered for services provided by Psychologists, Psychotherapists or Registered Social Workers. We are both licensed clinicians with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). Please check with your provider to see if our services are covered by your plan.
You can now report Psychotherapy services provided by Registered Psychotherapists as a Medical Expense, and they can be submitted for tax credits to the Canada Revenue Agency. See the CRA website for more.
